Learning Outcomes

· Explore the reasons as to how, and why, over 50’s are at increased risk of developing alcohol issues and potential harm caused by alcohol in later life

· Identify and consider alcohol use in an older adult

· What is a unit and how to calculate a unit

· What is the government guidelines

· Understand the concept of life transitions and how they might impact on alcohol use in the over 50’s

· Identify and consider alcohol use in the over 50’s and practice how to respond to this

· Recognise signs and symptoms associated with alcohol use/harm in an older adult

· Understand use of simple brief interventions such as FRAMES and practice using technique

· Appreciate how the learning from this course can be applied in the local setting

· Be aware of the signposting and referral pathways which exist within the local area

· Be aware of the strengths and challenges in relation to over 50’s and alcohol use in the local area
