Section 1: Our privacy policy

Drink Wise, Age Well is a partnership organisation; the primary partners working together to deliver the programme are Addaction, Royal Voluntary Service, Addiction NI and Developing a Caring Wales. This means there will be times we share information across the partners, however we are committed to upholding your legal rights concerning confidentiality, and we will not pass on information about you to any other individual organisation or agency without your specific consent.

How will we use the information we collect about you?

  1. To support you: We process your data, including sensitive information about health and social factors, so that we can support you to make positive behavioural changes and keep you safe from harm.
  2. To allow our funders to monitor the performance of the programme: The Big Lottery Fund provides our funding. We securely share anonymised data with our funders to monitor performance of the programme, and to help improve services. No personal information will be shared without your specific consent.
  3. To evaluate the success of the programme: We share anonymous information for research purposes, to provide statistical analysis and inform further research. No personal information will be shared without your specific consent. The Drink Wise, Age Well academic team is made up of: Substance Misuse and Ageing Research Team at the University of Bedfordshire, Queens University Belfast, Glyndwr University and Edinburgh Napier University.

You have the right to withdraw your consent to share information or restrict what information may be shared at any time, although this may result in a reduction of services being available.

How long do we keep your information for?

We will store your information securely in line with legal requirements. You have the right to view your records and can do so by asking a Drink Wise, Age Well staff member. Once you have left the programme we archive your records and then securely destroy them after a period of time set by national best practice guidelines.

Exceptional circumstances in which we would share your information without your consent:

There are some exceptional circumstances in which a decision of whether to share your data without your consent would be taken:

  • if it is believed that the welfare and safety of children and young people under 18 or vulnerable adults are being put at risk
  • if you express an intent to harm yourself or we have any concerns about your immediate welfare
  • if you express an intent to harm or cause injury to a third party
  • if our organisation is instructed by a court of law to reveal information about you
  • if you provide specific details about a serious crime which has been committed or is to be committed (for example, murder, rape, serious offence against another person)

Any decision to breach confidentiality is treated very seriously and if we are able, we will notify you of this and our reasons for doing so.  The decision would always be made by the team manager or their deputy.

Complaints Procedure

Drink Wise, Age Well is committed to providing high quality services. However, you may lodge a complaint if you consider:

  • we have failed to do something we should have done
  • we have done something badly
  • we have treated you unfairly or discourteously
